The Lexington Alarm of April 1775 summoned the Massachusetts militia and launched the American Revolution. Three Brant Hindman ancestors served in Revolutionary War militia: Joseph Rice (1745-1826) of Westborough Mass, a minuteman who answered the Lexington Alarm under Captain Robert Oliver, in the 18th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment — DAR Patriot Ancestor #A095016; Joseph Hardin (1750-1805) of Loudoun County Virginia, who registered for military service in 1781; and James Ewing (1721-1801) of Co. Londonderry Ireland and Greenbrier WV, who registered for military service in 1777.
