Content note
The general overview map from Sir William Petty's Hiberniae Delineatio (1685) — the first printed atlas of Ireland and the first in Europe based on measured surveys. Petty conducted the Down Survey (1655-1658) for Cromwell's regime; this general map was the front sheet of the atlas. The map depicts Ireland during the exact era when Brant Hindman's Irish ancestors lived: Hugh O'Neil (1605-1660 Omagh, Tyrone); his daughter Bridgit O'Neil Dennan (b. 1630); John Ewing (1648-1745, Donegal then Virginia); Jennet McElvaney (b. 1663 Donegal); Sir William Ewing II Baron (1625-1718, lived Coleraine Co. Londonderry 1684); and Rev. John Hindman (1720 Co. Londonderry). This map is the single best visual anchor for the Irish chapter of Brant's family history.
